At De Truffel I create and invent a lot of chocolate sculptures, chocolates and sweets. All these chocolate pieces are handcrafted combined with the newest technologies, like water cutting.
The process always starts with an idea in a season. In the chocolate industry we work a lot with seasonal products. For every season another set of products is asked. Also, there has to be a new set of products every season. Together with the heads of De Truffel we brainstorm about what kind of product we want in every season. Also we discuss what kind of packaging we are going to use, what the time of producing one piece should be and if it is going to be a single product or an serie of products.
I make an illustrator model of every product too get the first look and feel about the product. After some reflections and iterations with the heads I make a final model for the laser cutter in the Hydro Process design tool.
I will make the product and we will look at the design in 3D, maybe we use some different colors or adjust the size until it is perfect.
The last step is making sure it is possible to make not one chocolate piece but tens or hundreds of the same. The water cut file will be made ready to print tens or hundreds of pieces at the same time. After this step the chocolate piece is ready to be made on a large scale and go to wholesale catering and retail.
Below a photo series is shown which shows in chronological order the process is shown. These are a just a view examples of pieces I created.
